Hello, this is Andrew Hawkins from RLS. I hope everyone is enjoying their summer! I am calling to update you on the status of reopening our schools for the 2020-21 school year. This is a stressful time for all of us and the news about the coronavirus changes daily.
Our number one concern is the health and safety of our Rootstown students and staff. Over the past several months we have been working on our plans to restart the school year in conjunction with the Portage County Health Department. As you are aware, we also received information from Governor DeWine last week, and we are incorporating this into our plans.
First, our goal is to have our students and staff physically return to school 5 days a week as we believe in-person education is the most meaningful school experience.
Second, in order to achieve that goal we are working on safety measures to ensure student and staff safety. These safety measures include maintaining social distancing, effectively sanitizing the buildings, and educating staff and students on new protocols that will be in place.
Unfortunately we do not have all the answers at this time, but we hope to finalize our restart plan by the end of this month and I greatly appreciate your patience and understanding. At that time, there will be a presentation of the plan, it will be posted on our website and social media outlets, and it will be shared again at the August 17th Board meeting.
In the meantime, there is still some information we will need from parents to complete our plan. As a result, we will be sending out another parent survey regarding busing and return to school options. This survey will be available as of this evening, and will close on Monday, 7/20, at noon. Please take the time to complete this survey which is available on our district website and social media outlets or by clicking HERE.
I will be making another parent phone call once the plan is finalized.
Thank you and have a great evening!
