New to our building

Dear Parents/Guardians:


You may have questions about the transition to middle school (or if you're new to our district) and I would like to give you some information:


Our school office is open 7:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. during the school year.  The student’s day is from 7:25 A.M. to 2:10 P.M.  During the summer the office is open 7:00 A.M. to 2:30 P.M. two weeks before school starts and two weeks after school ends.


The week before school starts we will mail to your home a letter stating the student's first period class, teacher name, locker number and combination, and bus number (unless they walk to school) along with an emergency medical authorization form. We need to have the emergency medical authorization form returned by the first day of school. If you wish to pick up your student’s schedule before school starts, we need to have their completed Emergency Medical Authorization Form..


The first day of school the students go directly to their locker and then to their classroom.  There they will get their schedule (if not already in their possession), planner, and other paperwork to be brought home for the parent's review. 


Our cafeteria operates the same way as the elementary with the student’s account set up with their lunch ID number (which they need to memorize).  School lunches will be free during the 2021-2022 school year.


If a student will be absent, the parent needs to call the office before 8:00 A.M.  We do have voice mail, so if the call needs to be made before 7:00 A.M., you can leave a message.  When parents need to pick their student up before the school day ends, they must come to the office to sign them out.  After the bell rings at 2:10 P.M. parents do not need to come to the office for the student.  If the student is arriving late for school, they need to come to the office for a pass.  The parent does not need to accompany them; however, please call the office or write a note explaining why they are tardy (unless they are simply late).


School fees are $45 which can be paid in a lump sum or payments.  Checks should be payable to "Rootstown Middle School".  You can also pay for fees online at PaySchools on the school website.


Report cards and interims are posted online one week after the end of the grading/interim period.  Final report cards are mailed home approximately one week after school ends.


If you have any questions, please call the office or email me   I will return to the middle school office August 17, 2021.  I am looking forward to having our new students in our building!  School is scheduled to start Tuesday, August 31, 2021.
