Hello, this is Andrew Hawkins from RLS calling to inform you about our reopening plan for the 2020-21 school year.  You can view the plan on our district website and social media outlets.  Please keep in mind that this plan is a fluid document and will change as new information emerges.  Here are some of the highlights:

  • The type of learning environment utilized will follow the Ohio Public Health Advisory System’s color-coded levels.

    • “Yellow” or “orange” = traditional learning model

    • “Red” = hybrid learning model

    • “Purple” = remote learning model.

  • Currently, Portage County is “orange” so we plan on beginning the school year with a traditional model. However, there is an option for your child to participate remotely for the entire semester. If remote learning is being utilized, understand that it will involve a more structured approach and look differently from what you experienced last spring.

  • We will be sanitizing and disinfecting, practicing social distancing of at least 3 feet and 6 feet when possible, and requiring masks for ALL students on the bus, recommending for students in grades K-2 and required for 3-12 and staff.

  • To start the year we will utilize a phase in model and all MS students will be housed on the first two floors due to the heat and temperatures of the 3rd floor.

  • We ask that all parents complete the COVID-19 Commitment Form by August 10th at noon. It is VERY important that each family complete this form for EACH child indicating whether they will be coming in-person or choosing to be remote and to inform us if your child will be riding the bus.

  • We will also be hosting a Reopening Forum on Thursday, August 6th, at 6:00pm to address parent questions. A form is available for you to submit your questions by August 5th at noon.  This event will be live-streamed and then posted on the district website along with the questions and answers.

Please take some time to read through our reopening plan and complete the COVID-19 Commitment Form by August 10th at noon.

Thank you and have a great weekend!

Andrew Hawkins
